Assessments

The main entry point to the Upper School is age 13 (Year 9). The entry assessment is not competitive, and similar to the Lower School assessment comprises of a basic check of skills in English, Science and Mathematics.

In the summer term before entry, boys attend a ‘taster day’ to familiarise themselves with the Upper School before the start of the Autumn term in September.

Acceptance of a place

Parents are required to sign an Acceptance Form, which includes confirmation that they have read and accepted the school’s Terms and Conditions, and to pay the required acceptance deposit.

Late applications

Please contact our Admission Team on [email protected] to discuss further.

Scholarships and Awards

We will award scholarships to boys entering Year 9 if the scholarships in that year group are not already held by other boys but we do not do this in any other year groups.

Key dates for entry

Year 9 Assessment takes places in November prior to starting in the following Autumn term.

Upper FAQ

We wish our child to join mid-year. Is this possible?
Should you require a mid-term or mid-year start in Year 9, please contact Admissions team to enquire about availability.

Do I need to share school reports with Thorpe when making an enquiry?
We request that a copy of your child’s latest school report is emailed to us prior to a visit.

My child has Special Educational Needs. Can we still apply for a place?
Most recent school reports and an Educational Psychologist’s report are requested before a visit and assessments.

Will Thorpe contact my child’s current school when we apply for a place?
Confidential school reports are requested after Registration and are considered before a place can be offered. Therefore, it is advisable for you to contact your child’s school in advance of registering.

We would like to apply for Financial Assistance with the fees. How do we do this?
Bursary applications are accepted. Please speak to the Admissions team.
