In the summer term before entry, boys attend a ‘taster day’ to familiarise themselves with the Middle School before the start of the autumn term in September.

Parents are required to sign an Acceptance Form, which includes confirmation that they have read and accepted the school’s Terms and Conditions, and to pay the required acceptance deposit.

Scholarships and Awards

Scholarships are available at the start of Year 7 open to boys moving up from Year 6 and to those joining the school from other primary schools. Subject to continued satisfactory effort and standard of work, the scholarships will be retained until the end of Year 11.

Academic scholarships are by invitation only and are awarded to pupils who have the potential to gain at least six 7-9 passes at GCSE. Assessment is made through a maths paper, an English paper, a science paper and an interview. The syllabus for the subject papers is the Key Stage 2 syllabus.

To apply for a scholarship you must fill in a registration form and either tick the scholarship box on the online registration form. You will then be contacted by our Admissions team who will confirm dates and times.

Key dates for entry

Year 7 Assessment takes places in November prior to starting in the following Autumn term.

Middle School FAQ

We wish our child to join mid-year. Is this possible?
Should you require a mid-term or mid-year start in Year 7 or 8, please contact Admissions to enquire about availability.

Do I need to share school reports with Thorpe when making an enquiry?
We request that a copy of your child’s latest school report is emailed to us prior to a visit.

My child has Special Educational Needs. Can we still apply for a place?
Most recent school reports and an Educational Psychologist’s report are requested before a visit and assessments.

Will Thorpe contact my child’s current school when we apply for a place?
