At Thorpe House Prep School, we offer an excellent and nurturing learning environment, designed to provide your child with the best possible start to their educational journey.

From Reception (early years) to Key Stage 1 (Years 1–2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6), our Prep School creates a seamless transition through the early stages of your child's education. Our bespoke curriculum, tailored to each child's needs, is underpinned by excellent pastoral care, strong academic outcomes and opportunities for personal growth.

We believe that good relationships are the foundation of academic success and wellbeing, and that students need to feel safe and confident in order to excel. Our supportive school community ensures that each student is truly known by our teachers, creating a learning environment where every individual is valued and has a sense of belonging, enabling them to thrive. As such, we understand that each boy is unique.

Our approach reflects this through personalised learning that is tailored to enable every child to reach their full potential, with access to a curriculum that is carefully designed to inspire a love of learning, blending academic rigour with engaging, hands-on experiences.

We place a strong emphasis on active and practical learning, ensuring that lessons are enriched by opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Our popular Forest School programme encourages students to explore the natural world and develop key skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and resilience. Through outdoor learning, they apply their classroom knowledge in real-world contexts, building independence and curiosity.

Our students benefit from an array of sporting activities, including swimming, PE and games. These experiences, often enhanced through exciting inter-house competitions, are important for promoting physical fitness, teamwork, perseverance and leadership. Beyond the classroom, our students frequently enjoy off-site learning opportunities within the local community, or further afield on exciting residential trips, which enhance their learning experiences and deepen their understanding of the world.

A comprehensive co-curricular programme is in place, which includes a wide range of clubs, workshops and activities that allow students to discover new passions, develop leadership skills and engage with their peers in meaningful ways. Whether through musical pursuits, sports, or creative projects, every student is encouraged to strive for personal excellence and embrace all opportunities with enthusiasm and anticipation.

Our transition to Senior School is well-planned, supportive and enjoyable for our students. With close communication between our Prep and Senior School teachers, we ensure that students have the full benefit of an all-through school setting, for a seamless transition to the next stage of their education at Thorpe House.

At the heart of Prep School is our strong commitment to pastoral care and student wellbeing. We build resilience, empathy, honesty, a sense of responsibility and a lifelong love of learning, ensuring that each student is prepared for a bright and successful future, both at Thorpe House and beyond.
