Where every child is known, valued and inspired

A Message From the Headteacher
Thank you for taking the time to explore Thorpe House School. Whether you’re a prospective parent or simply curious about what makes this school so special, I’m pleased to welcome you into our community.
Thorpe House is a school with over 100 years of rich history, but far from being rooted in the past, it’s a forward-thinking, dynamic environment where children are challenged to grow, nurtured to feel safe and encouraged to be themselves. It’s a place where boys from 3 to 16, and both young men and women in our Sixth Form, are known for who they are – not just what they achieve.
We are proud to be an all-through school. This means our students benefit from continuous care, consistent teaching and deep relationships that span from the earliest years through to Sixth Form. There is immense power in familiarity: teachers and staff understand how each child learns, what motivates them, where they thrive and where they need support. That level of personal attention leads to remarkable academic outcomes and, equally important, confident, kind and self-assured young people.
Our class sizes are small by design. In this setting, every child is seen and heard. No one is left behind, and no one is held back. Our staff know their pupils deeply, both in subject knowledge and in character, and that makes a profound difference. Students are supported and challenged to do their best in an environment that boosts self confidence and trust.
At the heart of our school is The Thorpe Way. These six values – being Truthful, Helpful, Organised, Resilient, Polite and Empathic – are more than aspirational; they are lived every day. They shape how our pupils interact with one another, how they respond to challenges and how they navigate the world beyond school.
We talk a lot about “character for life” at Thorpe House. It means developing young people who are emotionally intelligent, grounded in strong values and prepared to lead, serve and thrive in any walk of life. Our job as educators is not just to prepare students for exams, but to prepare them for everything that comes after.
A Thorpe House education extends far beyond the school gates. From our Pathway to Professional Football programme, which nurtures elite sporting talent, to music, drama, outdoor adventure, debating, charity work and creative pursuits – we offer every pupil opportunities to find their spark.
Leadership, collaboration, responsibility and resilience are nurtured in the full breadth of school life – on the stage, on the sports pitch, in house competitions and out in the community.
Our pastoral care is regularly described by parents as exceptional, and I’m proud of that. Every pupil at Thorpe House is supported by a team that listens, encourages and walks alongside them. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we invest in getting to know every child as an individual, with their own story, their own strengths and their own potential.
This community, made up of pupils, parents, staff and alumni, is one of Thorpe House’s greatest strengths. It’s a place where your child will truly belong.
As Headteacher, I take very seriously the trust you place in a school when choosing it for your child. My commitment is to ensure that your child receives not only an excellent education, but one that is rooted in care, connection and character.
I would be delighted to meet you and show you Thorpe House in person. I hope you will come and see what makes this school such a special place.
Warmest wishes,
