Tailored for boys

Much more than a school, Thorpe House in Gerrards Cross is a home from home where boys aged 3 to 16 feel confident, valued and empowered to achieve beyond their potential. We are passionate about the benefits of single sex education and believe that boys need to be taught in an environment that supports their style of learning.

Adding some new text here

Thorpe House School is an independent day school for boys in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. A truly unique school in the local area, we offer our boys a bespoke learning journey from when they join Thorpe Explorers’ Nursery aged 3 through to 16 when they complete their GCSE examinations.

Co-educational schools cannot easily offer this and as a result it is often the boys who under-perform and get left behind, their achievements overshadowed by the performance of girls whose brains have matured more quickly. One of the main benefits of a school like Thorpe House is that our teachers are able to tailor the curriculum and deliver teaching and learning in a way that suits boys best.

Pre-Prep Department

A vibrant, inclusive and very happy school, where small classes ensure a high level of care and attention to every boy, and where boys are encouraged to embrace the values of friendship and respect, alongside perseverance and a love of learning.

Prep Department

A warm, friendly, family-like community where each boy is known by his teachers and taught in classes of no more than 16 boys. Due to these small class sizes, our teachers have the time, energy and experience to look after the individual needs of each and every boy.

Senior Department

We provide excellent teaching in a small school environment, where each boy is known by all of his teachers and is treated as an individual.  We utilise our understanding of each student so that by the time they leave us they are equipped to face the challenges of a new school and higher education.

Thorpe House School, steeped in history

Thorpe House began life over 90 years ago as a traditional boys’ Prep school and whilst it has seen many changes over the years, the one constant has been the school’s dedication to providing its boys with an outstanding, all-round education.

Our ethos

The strong Christian-based ethos and nurturing environment at Thorpe House gives our boys the platform they need to experience success.

As an independent boys’ school we pride ourselves in offering an education tailored to the way boys learn, whilst also providing a learning journey suited to the needs of each individual in our care.

Our educational approach encourages boys to be responsible members of their local and global community. Our staff are committed to providing boys with the encouraging guidance and support they need to achieve their individual potential.

Kindness, compassion, respect, politeness and resilience are traditional values that we expect all boys at Thorpe House to adhere to and our school motto, ‘To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield’, highlights the importance of hard-work and tenacity.

The environment in which the boys learn also plays a key role in their development and at Thorpe House we provide:

a warm, vibrant and caring family environment with welcoming staff who work in partnership with parents
a boy centred teaching and learning environment
small classes and excellent pastoral care.

We are proud of our reputation for providing learning experiences that are pivotal to the excellent GCSE grades our boys achieve at 16. However, whilst this is very important to us, it is not the sole measure of our accomplishments.

We are confident that by the time they leave us each pupil is a young man well prepared to cope with the many and varied challenges of modern life and ready to take his place in society.
