The Upper School is an exciting place to be! We offer the security and structure to allow students to pursue their interests and passions for life.

We embarked on a new and innovative programme for students in Years 9–11. We firmly believe that an extended Key Stage 4 allows our students to not only develop a clear understanding of the content of their chosen GCSEs, but to go above and beyond the curriculum in a number of ways.

At Thorpe House we are determined that all boys broaden their knowledge and be aware of the world beyond the school. We track all boys through a structured and monitored academic progress system with regular parents evening and written reports and continuous communication with the boys and their parents. We work hard to build strong partnerships for all boys between their family and the school, our staff are always accessible. Regular communication is seen as crucial to the boys’ success.

The boys start their GCSE career in Year 9 and select their options at the end of Year 8 meaning we can spend time broadening the curriculum and not just teaching for the examination. This includes extended practical work in subjects like DT, Drama and the Sciences and a chance to explore areas beyond the curriculum for other subjects.
