The Griffin Gazette

Welcome! The Griffin Gazette offers the latest stories from our unique school. Here we share our trips, in school activities and our Headmaster, Nicholas Pietrek shares his thoughts and the benefits of a boy's school.

The Griffin, an animal that is half eagle and half lion, it represents wisdom, strength, and cunning in Greek mythology.  Because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts, and the eagle the king of the birds, by the Middle Ages the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Since classical antiquity, griffins were known for guarding treasures and priceless possessions.

The Gazette is filled with wisdom and stories of strength.

In 2013, I lost one of my closest friends to Cancer, Steve Smith. At 33, he contracted a rare type of stomach cancer and sadly passed away after 10 months of treatment. At that time, one of the hardest of my life, everyone at Thorpe gave me the chance to grieve and support on my return to Thorpe. I will not forget within seconds of entering the door after, a boy in Year 11 said to me “I am sorry for your loss of your friend, sir”.
