Reception

In the first half of term, we focus on the topic of ‘People Who Help Us’, very apt considering COVID-19 and the impact it is having on the boys’ lives.

In the second half of term, we move on to the topic of ‘All About Me’. We feel this is especially important as not only does it enable the boys to understand their anatomy and how to live healthily, which is a learning goal in Early Years, but it also focuses on growth and transition, which we must make all the more effort to do at this ‘virtual’ time.

Summer Term

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

Key jobs in enabling society; road safety and where I live; school Assembly topics (values, kindness, teamwork, family, being resilient, happiness and joy etc).

Strengths and talents; being individual; worries and how to deal with them; being caring, kind and sensitive to others; cultures; self-awareness

Physical Development:

Healthy eating / balanced diet; different forms of exercise; throwing and catching; fine motor skills ongoing in class; team and paired opportunities; safety; athletics; pre-cursive formation.

Communication, Language and Literacy:

Labelling; matching; captions; speaking & listening; creative writing; questions; to listen and respond appropriately and attentively; vocabulary; communicate on Google Meets (class catch-up assemblies and small-group ‘Show and Tell’); knowledge of a variety of stories; the ability to re-tell stories; knowledge of key words to read and spell (advanced); focused book study; reading: fluency and comprehension; recall; adjectives; similes; de-coding; phonics. 

Maths:

Teen numbers; counting to 100, the 100 square; the properties of 2D shapes; 3D shapes; doubling; sharing; counting in 2s, 5s and 10s; odd and even numbers; addition sentences.

Ordering numerals to 100+; counting to 100 from a given number; number bonds; estimates; comparisons; addition & subtraction facts to 20; using apparatus; money; comparing quantities and measurement.

Understand of the World:

The body; fire engines old and new; using apps to draw; the importance of hygiene and danger of germs; maps and symbols; pictures from around the world; compare & contrast; typing; instructions; photos & X-rays; the Google tool; Eid; timelines; changes; senses; seasons; my family; Power Point; typing; email.

Expressive Arts and Design:

Printing; singing; stories & symbols; drawing; role play; signage; sounds; nursery rhymes; designing; masks / role play; designing and making my family crest; skeleton creations; self-portraits; musical instruments; repeat pattern rhythms; songs and poems.

French:

People who help us; body parts; fruits and vegetables; simple phrases; counting to 20; my family.
