Creative Arts

The creative arts thrive outside the classroom. Every year the school puts on a major production allowing the boys opportunities on the stage; The musicians perform regularly and our choir, ‘Thorpe Voices’ goes from strength to strength. Put simply, we offer our boys the opportunity to explore their individual creativity.

Everyone remembers that one amazing day at School, whether it is a performance or scoring a goal in the school football team. We want every pupil to have that opportunity at Thorpe in the Middle School. We have teams in the major sports and run A-D teams in many year groups, where applicable. Thorpe also caters for the individual sportsman so we have boys that have been involved in equestrian, golf and even rally car racing.

In drama, the Middle School is again thriving. Amazing productions happen every year which has included The Lion King and Oliver; it is fantastic to see so many boys flourish on the stage. You can also take a LAMDA qualification at Thorpe. LAMDA is a graded examination in Performance that focuses on acting to develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience. Learners who prepare themselves appropriately will develop in interpretative skills, technical skills and knowledge of the performance process.

Boys also have lots of opportunities to perform in music. In recent years, music in the Middle School has grown with a 50 plus choir, ‘Thorpe Voices’, but there are also chances to perform on guitar, piano, woodwind, brass, strings, drums and percussion.

Thorpe truly tries to find pupils' talents and champions everyone’s niche passion and skill. 

Sport

We aim to inspire a lifelong interest in sport, promoting enjoyment, teamwork, well-being and fitness. Our major sports are rugby, football and cricket but we also have real strength in swimming, athletics, futsal and basketball.

Clubs

We have a wide variety of clubs which allows the boys to develop valuable skills, such as leadership and teamwork. The range of options is growing all the time and current clubs include chess, Christian Union, cooking, computing, public speaking and board games to name a few.

Doke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gives boys (aged 14-24) the chance to develop skills for life and work, and achieve an award that is recognised by universities and employers alike.
