Ever wondered what a 'kitchen culture' looks like compared to a 'restaurant culture'?
For as long as I have known we have held to a very traditional view of what education should look like. It is important to hold onto elements of this - the prioritising of values, taking pride in our efforts and accomplishments, developing our knowledge and communication skills, understanding the world in which we live and how we have got to where we are today.
We have been back just a few days and very quickly I have been asked why we are doing things differently to other schools.
There is no way one can sugar coat what has happened over the last few weeks. COVID-19 has been devastating to our society in so many ways.
On this first day of physical closure my staff are working hard to ensure that our virtual doors remain open to our pupils.

Throughout November, Thorpe House School displays a vibrant reminder that Remembrance services are as relevant to today’s youngsters as to previous generations.
The Duke of Edinburgh awards are always an amazing time and have created some of the best memories I have of Thorpe.

It is difficult to escape the debate about homework. Not quite as divisive as Brexit, it is nevertheless an issue that puts people into firmly opposed camps, those that are emphatic about the importance of homework and the discipline and routines that it helps establish for a child and those that question its value at all. Of course, there are shades of grey in between but there are certainly strong opinions!
