Thorpe House School has a very active Parents' Association organising social events and raising funds for equipment which cannot be funded through fee income.
Each class has a class representative who arranges social events for the parents in their class as well as publicising and getting volunteers for special events organised by the PA.
Every year the PA Committee organises a number of events including but not limited to Christmas events for the Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Departments, a Summer Fair (the main fund-raising event of the year), a Quiz Night, Wine Tasting, Father and Son Golf Day and every four – five years, a Summer Ball held in a marquee on the playing fields.
Annually the PA raises in the region of £15,000 and most recently this was spent on astro turf for the school tennis courts and the refurbishment of the school swimming pool. PA funds have also been spent on a new minibus, a sound system and stage lights, a climbing frame in the Prep Department playground, class garden areas at Pre-Prep and interactive white boards at both sites. Every year there is also a book grant given to each class teacher to enhance the class library in the way that they see fit.
Although we are a Parents’ Association rather than a PTA, the Headmaster and Head’s of Department attend committee meetings and take an active role in making the PA an integral part of school life.
