ISI Inspectorate Report February 2017

The school has met all the standards and has been judged to be fully compliant within all areas.

Our Inspection Report can be downloaded below but I felt it important that I provide you with some context of what a Compliance Inspection entails. A Compliance Inspection is not qualitative so is not graded as excellent, satisfactory or needs improvement. To be deemed compliant the school must achieve a standard of good within all areas so the only qualitative word you will read is ‘good’. A Compliance Inspection is very much a health check for the school and informs parents that the school is meeting all the required standards.

The school was judged against over 500 regulatory standards under the umbrella of the 8 main areas which were as follows:

Quality of education provided
Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils
Welfare, health and safety of the pupils
Suitability of staff, supply staff and proprietors
Premises of and accommodation at schools
Provision of information
Manner in which complaints are handled
Quality of leadership in and management of schools.

The school has been deemed fully compliant within all areas of the regulatory standards above.

The Compliance Inspection Report is not a lengthy document so I would encourage you to read it in full. Although the report is not qualitative, I hope it serves to reinforce that the school is performing well and has the right structures in place to ensure that your son is well-educated, well-cared for and safe.

Pre-prep department

The Independent Schools Inspectorate inspected Thorpe House Pre-Prep Department (called Kinsgcote in 2011) at the same time as the Prep and Senior Departments in March 2011.

Together with many positive comments, the Independent Schools Inspectorate made a number of useful recommendations, the majority of which we had identified and have since addressed. The report provided us with an excellent benchmark to measure ourselves against as we continue to strive in providing the best teaching and learning experience for our boys.

The report which can be downloaded in full at the end of this page and below are some excerpts taken from the report:

“Pupils are enthusiastic and display excellent attitudes to learning.”

“Pupils’ personal development is excellent, in accordance with the aims of the school, and is supported by high levels of care and strong welfare procedures. Pupils are tolerant and respectful of each other’s differences and collaborate very well when working together. ”

“Pupils achieve particularly high levels of skill in literacy, reading, speaking and writing confidently for a variety of purposes. Mature speaking and listening skills were evident in interviews. Pupils of all ages listen carefully to what others say and treat their answers with respect. The presentation of pupils’ work is of a very high standard.”

“Pupils demonstrate excellent ability in number and mental calculations.”

“The quality of pupils’ attitudes is excellent overall. Boys are quick to settle, apply themselves thoughtfully, work enthusiastically and take great pride in their work.”

“The personal development of all pupils, including those in the EYFS, is excellent. In accordance with the aims of the school boys display kindness, excellent behaviour, tolerance and good manners.”
