Thorpe House Nursery is a happy and busy place where our boys thrive in a nurturing and fun, learning environment. We work hard to develop curiosity, independence and a joy of learning and we pride ourselves on our holistic and bespoke approach to all the boys in our care.
Our days start with child initiated learning which is followed by teacher-led activities. Boys learn from hands-on and real life experiences and we provide a balance of activities in a prepared and stimulating environment that enables them to make independent choices. We strongly believe that happy and confident children make good learners! We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) although the elements of Montessori Pedagogy are visibly present in our everyday practice.
The boys benefit from a wide range of school trips and in-house visits and weekly music sessions with a specialist teacher. The transition from Nursery to Reception can often be a big step and which is why we ensure that Nursery and Reception boys regularly benefit from interacting with one another through free-flow activity. This provides them with a smooth transition, as they are already familiar with their surroundings, which makes moving to ‘Big School’ much less challenging.
Thorpe House parents are actively involved in Nursery life: they are invited to talk to the boys about family life, cultures, customs, jobs they do and any other special interest and talents they might have. We practice an open door policy and are proud of the warm partnership we have with all our parents.
The Nursery day begins at 08.20 and there is an option for the boys to attend morning only sessions until 11.45 or they can choose full day sessions which finish at 15.00. If boys remain until 15.00 they are provided with a healthy cooked meal served to them in their classroom.
