At Thorpe House peer mentoring is something we actively encourage through our Reading Buddy system, the Power of 2 initiative and most recently with the Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh candidates who have been spending time at Pre-Prep helping the younger boys with their reading, literacy and numeracy.
There are many benefits to these types of mentoring schemes: For the older boys mentoring increases confidence, a sense of achievement at seeing the younger boys develop academically and also developments important transferable skills like leadership and communication skills. For the younger boys one of the most important benefits is that they see the older boys as a responsible role model to aspire to. A win, win situation!
It’s safe to safe that both the younger and older boys enjoyed these sessions and are keen for them to continue.
