Year 1 have been taking their science lessons out into the sunshine! Last week they ‘found’ a message in a bottle from someone stranded on a desert island which challenged them to build a mini shelter out of found objects to keep them warm and dry.
Today they evaluated their first shelter efforts and as part of the redesign process, they joined teams and discussed how to improve their first designs. This time they added soil and water to their building materials in an effort to make them more waterproof, safe and warm. The boys really enjoyed working in teams, they picked team leaders without any arguments and they really got the hang of what makes a fair test when they came to trialling their redesigned shelters. Here’s a film of two of the shelters!
