On Australia Day (January 26th) Australians come together as a nation to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. The date also marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and the raising of the Flag of Great Britain at Sydney Cove by Governor Arthur Phillip.
As we have three Australian boys at Pre-Prep we were very excited to welcome Mrs Walsh, Mrs Rennie and Mrs Tomi-Odufuwa into school yesterday to talk about Australian traditions. Reception listened to Australian stories, watched a presentation about Australia and sampled popular Australian treats including fairy bread (bread with hundreds and thousands on it) and Vegemite. Guess which boy is trying Vegemite in the photos below!
Year 2 have been learning about Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and they were lucky enough to have a piece of original Dreamtime art in school. The boys looked carefully at the painting and shared their ideas about what they thought the artists dream had been.
