Exciting new building plans afoot at Thorpe!

After months of planning, consultations, surveys and meetings, we are delighted to announce that we are on track to build the greatly anticipated multi-purpose hall with two-storey ancillary building and additional classrooms over the existing single-storey wing. We received planning permission the first week of November; the next step is for the school Governors and Headmaster, Mr Ayres to agree the final building details and financing which will then allow construction work to begin as soon as practicable.

“We’re very excited to have received planning permission for a structure that I believe will further bring Thorpe House together as a school. Since I joined the school four years ago I have longed for a space where we can provide the boys with a full indoor PE curriculum; somewhere large enough to put on theatrical productions with the space for the whole family to come and watch; an indoor recreation space for the boys at wet break time or lunchtimes and most importantly, somewhere for the whole school to get together for assemblies and celebrations. So, it is with great anticipation that we await the start of the building works!” – Terence Ayres, Headmaster.

Thorpe House’s transition from a traditional prep school into a school providing an excellent and enviable education for boys aged 3 – 16 takes another giant step forward with this challenging but exciting project, supported in this context by the current refurbishment of our swimming pool into a covered, year-round facility for use both by Thorpe pupils and the wider community. We had recognised that, overall, our facilities were lagging behind those of some of our competitors – with the completion of these two projects, and our continuing pursuit of providing inspirational teaching and all-round life skills, we believe that Thorpe House’s educational offering will be unrivalled.” – David Stanning, Chairman of Governors.

The drawings below, produced by TP Architects in Maidenhead show how the building will look when work is completed. Once the final details have been agreed, we will host a parent information evening so parents can view detailed plans of the buildings, meet our contractors and ask any questions they may have.
