Pre-Prep welcomed an African drummer into school last week as part of the fantastic timetable of events organised for Africa Week. During the workshop, the boys learnt how the drum was used traditionally and how it relates to the modern rhythms heard today. Then (and this was the fun bit), they tried out a variety of different sized instruments in a group – the team work the boys showed during their performance was very impressive! Thanks to Primary Workshops for Schools for a fantastic day!
As part of the week, Pre-Prep artist-in-residence Charlotte Hazell has been helping the boys paint in the style of Esther Mahlangu. The boys made their own printing blocks in the style she is well known for and they enthralled to discover all the houses in Esther’s village are painted like this and she has even painted the inside and outside of a BMW in this style.
