The Thorpe House Day of Cultures is day we all looked forward to and this year it did not disappoint. The day was filled with various activities; the first on the agenda was to dress up in the colours of a country chosen by Mrs Del Arco. The country for my form was Canada. Then at break time we were allowed to buy a pain au chocolat at break for £1; a delicious start to the day and all the proceeds from the sale were donated to charity.
Our final activity before lunch was Samba drumming, which is a mixture of drums and small percussion instruments used in the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. During the workshop we got to use many authentic Brazilian instruments. The workshop was really engaging and taught us a lot about the Brazilian culture and how to work together to play the instruments in time with one another. It was great fun.
Following the workshop was a Mexican lunch of chicken fajitas with lettuce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The food was delicious! The final activity of the day was an assembly about the importance of learning other languages and understanding other cultures; the perfect ending to a spectacular day. Special thanks to Mrs Del Arco and all the staff involved in making the Day of Culture such a memorable day.
